Job update
Got the results of my first interview and…
I didn't get it. The guy bumped up someone who already worked there. Saves them money, saves them time. I'm perfectly okay with this. The station, WDHN, is close to home for me. It's in Dothan, Alabama, which is a half-hour from my mom. They were looking for an anchor (which I've only done in radio). To be perfectly honest, Amy and I didn't feel peace about this station. I showed up and interviewed on a whim during spring break. I had a great time talking with the news director, and he told me the specifics of the job.
First of all, the money wasn't going to fly. Secondly, the station has severed ties with the Associated Press. I really didn't like that fact because my Best Reporter award two weeks ago came from the AP. I wouldn't have another chance at winning something else next year if I worked for them. Plus, that award, my 13 months in TV, and my 11.5 years in radio should've brought in a higher salary. Dothan is also a smaller market than I would've liked. Granted, I'm still waiting to hear from the #1 station in Dothan. Their salary was lower and their news director really didn't impress me. The gentleman who's trying to get me on did, though. I'll talk to him again tomorrow. Since that salary is lower, I highly doubt I'll take it if I am offered a spot. Plus, they won't have a spot until the summer (and even that's not guaranteed).
The one station I want to work for is in the process of interviewing and making the decision. I was told I am at or near the top of the list to get it (see a previous post to get my exact reaction to it). I'll hopefully talk to them on Friday, or at least start playing “phone tag” again.
This one is in a much higher market, and it's still in the Southeast. Plus, Amy and I fully believe God is working this one out as my job. If it's not, then He'll let us know, but it's looking good. The news director wanted to interview me last Thursday. I had classes and Amy was working. The guy calls me on Tuesday morning. My teachers canceled both of my classes for Thursday, and Amy suddenly got her schedule changed to have Thursday off instead of Saturday. She was able to go with me and see the city, which we both fell in love with. Tell me God's hand is not in this.
And now, the door to WDHN is closed.
And we keep praying…
