End of a short-lived era

May 2nd, 2004 by Brock

I just got home from work @ WVUA. Today was my last day, and I couldn't have ended it on a better note. It was a bittersweet day. Josh and I had to go to Macon, Mississippi, to get the scoop on the guy who just escaped from his captors in Iraq. Fantastic story with no real footwork from me. :-)

Here's the ironic part: We get into town and all of these huge satellite trucks are around town. At the family's house, the courthouse… you name it. It was like they were saying, “come join a real station.” Now don't get me wrong, WVUA is really not bad. I've enjoyed these last 14 months, but it is home to a lot of student interns just now getting into the business. It's not the most financially resourceful place, but it's not bad. I've had a good time to be certain.

And one of the best parts about today? I finally got to see the famous “ghost face” in the window of the Pickens County Courthouse. Click here for a history of the face. Freaky… but cool.

I will find out within the next four days about the Super Secret Job Location. :-) It's not a big secret any longer to people who know me, but all will be revealed (happily, if I get it / vice versa) soon enough.

I'll miss Clayton () and Josh the most. These guys have been my photographers over the last few months, and more so, two of my greatest friends. I've been able to share everything with them, good and bad. I know both of them are wanting to get out of news, but I hope I may one day have the chance to work with them again. If not, I'll always have them as close pals. You guys are the absolute best. I will miss you both dearly. If not for you, this whole ride might not have been as much fun. *dries eyes… blows nose…* :-)

Well, I guess I better hang it up for now. I've got three hours before bedtime, and I need to study like a champ. Civil War final @ 8 a.m., and Ratings Analysis @ 7 p.m. Then I'm free until Thursday when I have my “final” final in Statistics. After that… Free man. Free “college educated” man. :-)

Rest well…
