Oh, brother

Here's one for the ages…

Jessica Simpson Cast as Daisy Duke

Now, let's think about this… How many times will she forget her lines before they kick her off the set? I guess she's better than the supposed first choice of Britney Spears. She'll never replace Catherine Bach, though. At least Catherine had an ounce of intelligence. A much better choice for the part? Jessica Biel.

As for Bo and Luke? Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville. It's a good thing I liked these two in “The Rundown” and “Men In Black 2″ respectively. The roles that made them famous are anything but flattering.

So, my next question is… Will John Schneider, Tom Wopat, Catherine Bach, Ben Jones, Sonny Shroyer or James Best make cameos? I hope at least one of them will. That will be the only tie to the old series this thing will have. Lord knows in today's politically correct world, they'll take the Confederate flag off the General Lee.

My prediction? People won't run to see it, but it won't bomb either. It will open the first week at #1, then head straight down.

Sorry for the negativity. Amy and I both loved the old show so much. It's hard to get excited about the movie with the cast they've chosen.

Thoughts before bedtime

September 13th, 2004 by Brock

Quick weekend thoughts…

- Had a great time with Mom! She looked the best that I've seen her in a long time. She's been very sick, but seems to be pulling out of it. I certainly pray so. Friday was Mom's birthday and today was Keith's, so happy birthday to you both! We were in Florida for Keith's party.

- Saw a lot of my cousins for the first time in 6-10 years.

- Cousins are Keith, Chris, Joseph, and Julie.

- Keith works for Pepsi and is another huge Jeff Gordon fan. He hit the big 3-0. I'm not far behind. :-) It was great to finally meet his wife and daughter.

- Chris is going through some rough times physically. We're praying for you, man. I can't imagine what you're dealing with, but know we love you and will be there for you. You've got a beautiful family!

- Joseph is an engineer with a brand new wife and baby. He's the one responsible for my addiction to science fiction. Yes, the baby looks like you. Is she cuter? Julie says so. :-)

- Julie is an attorney for Gulf Power. She's busy traveling all over. We are finally hooking up via e-mail.

- I used to hang out with these guys a lot when we were younger. I didn't realize how much I missed them until Saturday. I hope we can all get together more often.

- Saw some new faces in the family. Welcome! Saw some old faces. Hello, again!

- Spent some time with Jimmy and his girl, Heather, today. Great to see them! I was hoping to, but hadn't heard from them. We were about a half-hour from walking out the door to come home and they showed up. Nice timing, Jimbo!

- To sum it all up, this was a fantastic weekend. I hate that it's gone. I really hope to see everyone again soon! G'night!

Random thoughts before sleep

September 10th, 2004 by Brock

A couple of random thoughts…

-I did a story tonight on Auburn University's Olympic athletes. While filming, Aubie (AU's mascot) is sitting down next to the students. His tail is in his lap. He picks up his tail and starts rubbing it up and down. You get the visual idea, right? I now have this on tape, and it looks pretty obscene. So what does this faithful Alabama graduate do? I used the footage in my story. :-) If you saw the story and caught this clip, that's why I put it in. I have to get my AU jabs in when I can. Aubie the Tuggin' Tiger… busted. Roll Tide, my man!

-Troy beat Missouri tonight 24-14. Holy smoke…

-Going to see Mom this weekend. It's her birthday! Have a happy one, Mom! We love you!

-Start working the day shift on Mondays this upcoming week. Sweet. Now I can be home for American Chopper. That gives me four nights a week at home.

-G'night.

Talking with Governor Riley tonight…

September 7th, 2004 by Brock

Here's a brief example of my interview with Alabama Governor Bob Riley tonight (actually a pre-interview chat):

Me: “You might be surprised to find I'm actually a member of the media that's Republican.”
Gov. Riley: “Wear your seat belts, drive carefully, don't eat spicy foods. I need to keep you around.”

He is a very nice and gracious man. I was the only television reporter/photographer there tonight. The guys back at the station told me to hang on to that interview, so I made a copy of it and threw it into my briefcase. Why? Because it's almost impossible to get a one-on-one interview with him. Score!

Every other station will be at the press conference tomorrow morning. I beat everyone to the story. :-) Thank you, Governor Riley!
