What a freakin' STUPID day
To begin, this entry is Friends Only. If you know anyone I work with, I would appreciate it if you don't talk about this post to them. I just want to vent.
I am going to friggin' explode at work. I almost did today. I can't believe some of the incompetent people I work with. The sad thing is? I probably don't know half of their names! I never see them!
Why can't they hire people who are college educated to work in production? You know… some of them are. I'm not convinced all of them are. That might not even make a difference if you can't use freakin' common sense.
Here's what I'm talking about: I did my story today. No problem… good story. The psycho that killed an Opelika police officer will finally leave this world Thursday via lethal injection. I spoke with Chief Mangham and the slain officer's sister. Great bites from both of them. So… who are we sending down to Atmore to cover the execution?
Per a conversation with someone I really like today:
Me: “Who are we sending?”
Them: “Not sure yet. We haven't decided.”
Me: “Okay. Going live that night from the prison would be a really cool SAT shot. I'll be working that shift (hint, hint!)
”
A few minutes later…
Them: “Can you plan on being in Columbus Thursday night? You'll even have a photographer!”
What? I'm sorry. WHAT? I've not been given the chance to go to one darn place yet. There have been hurricanes, B'ham shots, you-name-it shots, and I have yet to do a &*$%^$ one.
Sure… I have my killer NASCAR story I'm doing for November sweeps in North Carolina, but I need a hard news story. The NASCAR story will be a feature piece, not “Hey! I'm out here watching a jerk die!” I'm so tired of being passed over, and I don't even know if they realize it or not. Every time I do a live shot they tell me how good it was. Screw this.
That was just the first part of the day. Once the show got on the air, I was so frustrated I screwed up. On top of that, when my story was finished, they did another quick piece on the execution WITH THE WRONG VIDEO! To top it off, they got a couple of other facts wrong! I won't bore you with them, but holy crap! Do your fact check!
I also wrote another quick story for them. I told the producer (after looking up the file videotape number) that she needed to use that video because I couldn't get over to the place to get some more today. Let me state that again: I looked up the file videotape number. I passed it along. I checked it three times. What happens when the story runs? COMPLETELY DIFFERENT VIDEO!!!! WHAT?? WHAT?? Either someone logged it incorrectly, or someone just completely screwed up!
I am so sick of incompetince!!!! I am so tired of people not thinking clearly! WHAT THE HECK DO THEY PAY YOU FOR??????????
Holy crap! I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't complain at work. I don't berate others. I simply do what's asked of me to the best of my ability. I can't say the same for some of the people I work with. Some of them whine, complain, point fingers, etc. They get their way most of the time.
I don't do any crap like that, and I get to stay in the frickin' area while someone else goes out to a remote location. It's not like I can't do them. HELLO! FRIGGIN' 2003 ALABAMA ASSOCIATED PRESS BEST REPORTER OVER HERE!!!
I don't do any of that crap, but the people who do can't do their stupid jobs correctly.
I'm done. I really do love my station, but this crap has been building up for way too long in me.
