Dropping the “Fine-bomb”

July 8th, 2007 by Brock

Our local AM talk station that carries Paul Finebaum has announced it’s dropping his show.  I am not pleased with this at all. He’s the most entertaining show they have on that station. The powers there are replacing Finebaum with a local Auburn athletics show. I guess they feel he talked a little too much about Nick Saban and Alabama.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this certain station from the beginning of my time here. The “news director” (a loosely-given title for many reasons) doesn’t do any leg work himself. He just rips and reads stuff out of the paper, or he just rips off my stories from our web site.  There was even a time when we almost sued his tail for replaying audio from my stories on the site.  He was recently awarded “Best Newscast” from the Alabama Broadcasters Association, but I think he owes half of that award to me and the other half to the local rag.

That being said, they do have an informative morning show.  They also have one heck of a boss (also our state representative). I think the world of him.  He helps us out when we need it, and he gets a lot of money for this area.

Regardless, they’ve lost a listener in me.  After 12 years in local radio myself, I gave up supporting it when I was part of a mass layoff. I’ve since bought Sirius satellite radio, and I only flip back over to the AM station for Finebaum.

See ya later, local guys.
