Price is a-ok

July 23rd, 2007 by Brock

Drew Carey+”The Price is Right”= Spot on.

One of my favorite comedians has been tapped to replace Bob Barker. That is excellent!

On a side note, you’re probably wondering (or not) what I’m doing watching a CBS show when I work for an ABC affiliate. No worries. “The Price Is Right” is the only show I watch on CBS, and I don’t even watch any shows on ABC. All of my shows are on NBC. :-)

Finebaum’s Revenge

July 23rd, 2007 by Brock

WAUD 1230 AM in Auburn has picked up The Paul Finebaum Radio Network.  The best part is they’re airing the show from 2-6 p.m. local time.  The old station only ran it from 4-6.  :-)

We are happy.  VERY happy!

Exhausted

July 18th, 2007 by Brock

I forgot to ask for safe travel prayers on here before we left, but we got back tonight from our out-of-country sweeps shoot.  It’s been an exhausting few days, but definitely some to remember.

As usual, I’ll post pictures and details after the stories run on-air.  Gotta get to bed for now.  I really don’t like flying as it leaves you so tired.  Night!

Dropping the “Fine-bomb”

July 8th, 2007 by Brock

Our local AM talk station that carries Paul Finebaum has announced it’s dropping his show.  I am not pleased with this at all. He’s the most entertaining show they have on that station. The powers there are replacing Finebaum with a local Auburn athletics show. I guess they feel he talked a little too much about Nick Saban and Alabama.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this certain station from the beginning of my time here. The “news director” (a loosely-given title for many reasons) doesn’t do any leg work himself. He just rips and reads stuff out of the paper, or he just rips off my stories from our web site.  There was even a time when we almost sued his tail for replaying audio from my stories on the site.  He was recently awarded “Best Newscast” from the Alabama Broadcasters Association, but I think he owes half of that award to me and the other half to the local rag.

That being said, they do have an informative morning show.  They also have one heck of a boss (also our state representative). I think the world of him.  He helps us out when we need it, and he gets a lot of money for this area.

Regardless, they’ve lost a listener in me.  After 12 years in local radio myself, I gave up supporting it when I was part of a mass layoff. I’ve since bought Sirius satellite radio, and I only flip back over to the AM station for Finebaum.

See ya later, local guys.

Safely home

July 8th, 2007 by Brock

We made it back around midnight last night after a very exciting day of filming. I have lots of digital pictures, and I haven’t had a chance to look at the video yet.  I’m sure it’s even better.

I would love to post the pictures and let you in on the little secret, but I can’t until the story airs. See previous post for reason.

I have one more sweeps shoot to do, and it’s not even in the United States. We’re heading somewhere else in one week. I’ll reveal that later, too.  :-)

It’s a good month for travel!
