Sirius-ly annoyed

March 27th, 2008 by Brock

For those who have Sirius, are you also tired of hearing that same guy doing all the commercials?  There’s one guy who does something like 75 percent of them, and they all sound the same.  They’re also pure cheese.

During my 12 years of radio, one thing that was taught is don’t run commercials with the same voice back-to-back.  This dude is on so many of them, they’re almost always that way.  There are even a few where he tries to do two different voices in the same spot.

Maybe it’s because I can sit here and listen at work over the Internet now, but this guy is really crawling my nerves.  I guess they don’t have a lot of people who can do commercials.  Maybe I should stick to the commercial-free music stations…

My random thought for the day is over.  :-)

Good sleepy morning

March 25th, 2008 by Brock

I know it’s been a couple of days (or more) since I updated.  I came into work about 40 minutes early this morning.  It’s so early, I’m sitting here with a few minutes left before I’m actually on the clock.  The only reason I’ve started coming at this time is the better parking spots.  However, I’m more tempted to go back to my normal arrival time.  I’m sleepy, but only because I got less than five hours of sleep last night.

The last six weeks I’ve been working this new job I’ve been in the common area of the office.  I’ve had the office printer in my left ear, but I’m finally in my own office.  It’s not an attractive office because of the paint scheme (there isn’t one), so I’m coming in this weekend to paint it.  It will look a ton better when I’m through with it.  The job is still going very well.  I like it and the people I work with a lot.  They make this worthwhile.

I started redesigning my personal web site a couple of months ago, but haven’t touched it since because I spend all day at work on the computer.  Designing sites for Auburn is a lot of fun, but I like to do different things at home now.  Not too many different things, but a few.

My eyes are crossing, so I’m going to go for now.  I need to get some Coca-Cola in my system (Ding! Product placement!).

Grab yer popcorn

March 15th, 2008 by Brock

We watched “Dan In Real Life” last night. I’d been wanting to see it, so we finally got around to it. I really enjoyed it (as I do most everything with Steve Carell).

The only thing neither of us didn’t like is how Hollywood makes parents look weak against their children. Dan looked like a real wimp in dealing with his three girls, especially the middle one and especially toward the end. That’s a bad message when kids have the upper hand on the parent and the adult does nothing about it.

Just a little parenting observation, but we really did like the movie. I highly recommend it. It’s funny, and there’s not really any bad language in it.

Now it’s time for the next Steve Carell movie… “Get Smart!” YES!

Crash into me

March 11th, 2008 by Brock

And I’m not talking about the Dave Matthews Band song…

The video below shows about 200 cars all smashed into each other on the main highway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They’re blaming a thick morning fog.

Why do I bring this up? I traveled this road twice 11 years ago. Trust me… It’s not because of the dense fog. These people seriously cannot drive. I can’t tell you how crowded this road is, or how we almost got hit several times.
