A time for thanks

November 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and we have a lot to be thankful for in our household.

I am thankful, first and foremost, for God and what He has blessed us with.  This year has been full of many changes, and He has been faithful through it all.

Second, I’m so thankful for my wife, Amy.  She is a rock I can lean on, and I love her so very much.  We both have had the biggest change of our lives this year with our son, David.  As I write this, he still isn’t here, but will come into this world by this time next week.

David, as well-documented on this blog, has a heart condition, and we are currently dealing with doctors to prepare for his arrival.  This has been so emotional and so time-consuming.  I can’t wait to hold him and bring him home, but both are more than a few weeks away.  We’re faithful he’ll make it and be a healthy little man.

Our daughter, Alyssa, is also a blessing.  She hit two-years-old with a vengeance, but she is so smart.  She has the verbal skills of a four or five-year-old, and she picks up on everything.  The best part is she is a caring little lady.  She cuddles with us, prays for people in ambulances and talks to everyone.  I never knew how challenging, yet how rewarding, it is to be a dad.

My career path also changed in February. I left 16 years of broadcasting behind to concentrate on another type of media at Auburn University.  I also left behind some great friends and co-workers in the television news biz.  I still have my great friends back at WTVM, and I’ve got many new and awesome friends at Auburn.  I love my job and the folks in my office, and that is something I’m very thankful for.

We’re also thankful for the other family and friends in our lives.  You all should know how much you mean to us.  We’ve come so far from your love, support and prayers.  I just don’t have the time or space to list everyone and say how grateful we are for you, but know that we’re thinking of you.

So that’s what I’ll be giving thanks for this year.  I give thanks for it all every day.
