Good news from the doc

November 18th, 2010 by Brock

I was all set to go back to work today, but last night threw me a major curve ball.  You ever have one of “those” nights? You know, all nasty sick and stuff?  Yeah, had one.

I woke up several times very sick.  I won’t get into it.  It’s a clean blog, right?  Anyhow, I apparently caught a wee bug, and it did me in.  So, I’ve been around the house all day trying to recoup.

My life archived at 22-years-old

June 4th, 2010 by Brock

I did a search tonight of one of my old websites (about a year before acquiring brockp.com), and I found a brief autobiography from 1998.  Eh, why not share it and see how my 22-year-old brain worked?  :-)   And yes, several things have changed since then.

25 random things about me

January 25th, 2009 by Brock

This has been lifted from my Facebook profile.  Reposting it here:

1. I am not tagging a lot of people in this because it looks like everyone I know has already completed one of these.

2. My first love is God. Then it’s unconditional love for my beautiful wife and kids.

3. I am proud I served in the U.S. Air Force, but I never forgave them for making me spend three years of my time at Ft. Hood, TX, with the Army. I almost made it a career until they gave me orders to another Army post in South Korea. I gave them back and once again entered civilian life.

4. I haven’t played a trombone or baritone in many years despite eight years of band and two years of drum corps. I also never wanted to play football.

5. I was drum major my junior and senior years.

6. I wanted to get married at a young age and have kids by the time I was 30. Mission accomplished.

7. I have many friends with different political views from my own, and I don’t want to damage my friendships. However, I’m very vocal about politics and stubborn in my beliefs.

8. I cherish and require a lot of quiet and alone time since I was an only child.

9. Even though I worked as a television reporter, I never watch(ed) the news.

10. I am quick to lose my temper despite how easy going I appear.

11. In high school, if a girlfriend and I ever broke up, I usually never spoke to them again. That cost me a couple of opportunities to date some girls I really wanted to, but it made our friendships grow stronger.

12. I’ve gotten out of many tickets thanks to my dad being a state trooper.

13. I am horrible with finances despite my mom being a banker.

14. I’m an absolute geek for Star Trek, Batman, computers and gadgets.

15. I want to lose weight, but lack the will power to tear myself away from other chores and work on it.

16. I could care less how fashionable I am. I’ve got other things to worry about.

17. My tolerance for many things runs shallow. Ditto for patience.

18. I collect a lot of toys and autographs.

19. Despite getting a degree in broadcasting and working for 16 years in radio and TV news, I *H-A-T-E* having my picture taken. My family, immediate and extended, still has yet to fully realize this.

20. God has forgiven me, but I still sometimes regret a lot of things I did while in my late teens and early 20s.

21. I didn’t cry about my grandmother dying until the funeral director gave me the key to her casket.

22. I will always regret not being able to make it home for both my Paw-Paw and Maw-Maw’s funerals (they died within a week of each other while I was in Texas).

23. I don’t read books a lot anymore, but wish I did.

24. I dislike clutter, but can’t seem to get away from it.

25. I want a tattoo, and I’ve always known exactly what I want. I’m afraid to get one, though, because my kids will see it. I even won one once, but let a friend take my place.

Now calm, but still rambling

January 20th, 2009 by Brock

Wow … I just read back over the post I made last night.  I was a *tad* angry.  Nothing gets my blood pressure going like these morons who don’t treat this country and its symbols with respect, symbols for which I voluntarily served and defended.  Heck, I’m sure more than enough of Lord Hussein’s minions have no clue what his true political views are and just voted for him because he’s half-black and can read a teleprompter well.

There are so many days when I miss Ronald Reagan.  I am no longer a Republican, and I’m sure as heck not a Democrat.  I’m a Conservative first and foremost.  Throw the ideas of The Gipper in there, and I’m what you call a Reagan Conservative.  Those days are long gone, and I don’t think there are many Republicans now who can shine a light within a mile of what he did and said.

I’m not ashamed of my conservatism.  You can call me “old-fashioned,” or whatever you like.  I believe we all want the best for ourselves, but I believe more and more people are not willing to work for it.  They want everything handed to them, and that’s not what built this country.  Just like the woman the night Lord Hussein won … “Obama’s going to pay my mortgage and my gas.”  Please.  Get off your lazy backside and W-O-R-K!  Or … is that a bad four-letter word to you?

This country has fallen short of the ideas that made it great.  As I told someone at work today, I am thrilled Americans finally put a black man into office.  It shows the progression that’s been missing for so long.  However, they (I say that because I didn’t vote for him) decided to put this man into that place.  His socialist and near-communist views do not promote  self-betterment.  It’s all about the hand-outs now.  If I want to help someone, it’s because I want to.  Not because I’m forced to.

As I’ve ranted here before, I do not believe this style of HOPE and CHANGE are what we need.  The only hope I have goes into Jesus Christ, not some flawed man here.  The only change I want to see is a return to the beliefs in God that our country was founded on.

I believe if we do not return to that foundation of earning your keep and trust in God, we’ll crumble like Ancient Rome.

Deface MY flag!?

January 20th, 2009 by Brock

This did it.  I’ve more than had it up to here with this clown and his mindless followers:

Idiots defacing MY flag!

Read this one, you idiots!

U.S. Flag Code:  “The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”

I gave years of my life to the U.S. Air Force and this country to defend that flag!  You dare put his image, logo and text on MY flag?!?  I have no more words for you pieces of trash!!
