Prayers

November 21st, 2007 by Brock

I just wanted to say how sad it was to hear about Siran Stacy and his family.  He’s a former Bama player, and a (supposedly) drunk driver killed his wife and four of his five children the other night.  He and a daughter are still in the hospital.

Siran is from my hometown of Geneva, Alabama. I knew some of his family growing up.  I pray they can get through this tough process.

Sunday night

November 18th, 2007 by Brock

It’s been a very restful day at the house.  All three of us are not feeling well, so it’s been relatively quiet.  I got home from that horrible, embarrassing Alabama-LaMonroe game around 11:00 last night, and I’ve been sore ever since.  That goes for both physical and mental states.

What a pathetic game.  I don’t know where Bama’s players’ heads were, but they weren’t in that game.  I’ve mentioned here several times that things won’t get better until Shula’s players are gone.  Even Saban made a comment in the press conference afterward about the guys from the previous administration not knowing how to finish games or seasons.  I paraphrased that, but that’s what he said in a more polite way.  I was very happy to hear him say that.

I keep reminding myself that in Saban’s first year with LSU, they lost to UAB and had a bad year.  They eventually went on to win two SEC titles and a national championship in five years.  That’s the only comfort I’m finding right now.

I am very sore in my lower back and feet today.  I think it may have something to do with the shoes I wore, but I wear them all the time when I shoot football.  I don’t know why they would be bothering me now.

It’s Thanksgiving week, and I’m ready for it.  It should prove to be an easy week, and then I shoot the Iron Bowl Saturday.  That won’t be so easy after the loss.

I don’t have too much more to say.  I’m sorry it turned into another negative post.  I just don’t feel the best in the world.  The best thing about this weekend was seeing Brad and Doug at the game.  I also got to see an old UA teacher, Chandra, for the first time since college.  That was awesome.  She is one of my favorite people there.

I’ll close and get some sleep.  This week will be better.  After all, turkey’s a-comin’!  :-)

Holiday homestretch

November 15th, 2007 by Brock

It’s been an interesting day to say the least.  I started out with two stories I didn’t think would pan out to be anything major, and it ballooned to four good ones by the time the show started.  I had the top four stories on the 5 p.m. newscast tonight. On top of that, I sat on an hour-long media panel at our Emergency Operations Center.  It was a basic public information officer course on how local government officials can relate to us media-types.

My buddy Katie also finally announced to the rest of the crew that she’s taken a job in Austin, Texas.  It’s outside of TV news, and it’s in my old Air Force stomping grounds. She’s got a little more than a month left, and I’m going to absolutely miss her.  I always get close to my producers, and then they bolt.  :-)   This will be an awesome change for her, though.  All my best, my dear friend.

My friend Jaime is also leaving my competitor.  She’s stepping down as the east Alabama gal for Warble.  I hate to see her go since she’s a great girl, but it will be a good move for her.  I used to work at her station, and I can tell you some management horror stories there.  I’ll save that for if/when I leave my station.  No need ruffling the feathers.

This weekend also marks the last trip to Tuscaloosa, and it could be my last Friday night to shoot high school football.  I’m excited it’s almost over because it means it’s the holiday season, and I don’t have to give up so much of my weekend anymore.  I still have one more Bama game to shoot, but it’s here in town… the Iron Bowl!

I’m in a very peaceful place tonight.  Amy and I have been doing a lot of praying on some life decisions coming up, and I always think more about them around this time of the year.  It’s cold outside, it’s warm inside and I’m at my happiest around the holidays.  I’ve been uptight the last couple of weeks, but God has put a peace inside me about these decisions.  It’s all just a waiting game.  :-)

Geaux (away) Tigers!

October 20th, 2007 by Brock

Wow… That was one of the best finishes I’ve ever seen. LSU got a lucky touchdown to beat Auburn 30-24 with :01 left in the game.

Bama and LSU sit alone now at the top of the SEC West. Thank goodness I’ll be in Tuscaloosa when those ugly purple and gold Cajuns get to town. Better yet, thank goodness it’s two weeks away. I can breathe a little before then. :-)

Vols sent packing

October 20th, 2007 by Brock

The one game I have to miss because of this stupid staph infection is the Bama-Tennessee game.  And Bama goes and blows them out of the water 41-17!  Someone forgot to rub Fulmer’s belly for luck!
