It’s no longer your concern

December 13th, 2009 by Brock

I think I’ve been a little too open about my life on Facebook and Twitter.  I have alienated a lot of people with my political views, and a lot of people have alienated me with their venom and obscenities about my alma mater.

That’s the tough part of having friends who went to and/or cheer for the rival school.  I can’t stand seeing people on either side of the fence bash the other.  Unfortunately, I let it get to me because I do have a tremendous amount of love for both.

So, to fix this, I have shut down my tweets from the outside world (unless I approve you to see them), and I have shut out anyone who has anything bad to say about either school from my Facebook wall and status updates.  Even if you’re a close friend in real life, the moment you bash a school I went to/work for, you’re done.  I even block your updates from my news feed.  I feel that’s nicer than simply unfriending you (it lets you know I still like you in real life).

That’s not the only criteria.  I’m blocking a lot of Facebook access simply because too many people see too many things.  One of the reasons I got out of TV news is too many people knew who I was.  I honestly got tired of being recognized and wanted to slip back into obscurity.  Instead, I opened up for the world on those two platforms, and now it’s causing me to have ill feelings toward people I wouldn’t have in the first place.

If you want to see what’s going on (in a more controlled manner), then keep checking this blog.  I don’t update much, but I’ll be putting up only things I want everyone to see … which isn’t a lot.

Hey, where’d ya go?

April 23rd, 2009 by Brock

I was looking at this blog today, and all you’ve seen are Twitter updates. Sorry ’bout that. The reason I haven’t updated is because I’m practically blind right now.

I’ve been waiting on new glasses, and I’m having a devil of a time even working my normal job. I just didn’t want to write a whole lot here, too.

That being said, my glasses are finally in. I’ll pick them up tomorrow morning! YAY! And for the record, I hate contacts. They never feel right, so I haven’t worn them in a couple of weeks. Tomorrow is a brand new day!

Dancing with my baby girl

February 13th, 2009 by Brock

img_2860.jpgI just wanted to thank the City of Auburn for hosting its 20th annual “Daddy-Daughter Date Night.”  It was the first time Alyssa and I went, and we had a blast.  She was dancing, jumping and having a great time!  I’ll post the photo from the actual event when I get it.

I love my little girl so much.  I know we’ve all been stressed out since about October, but God is in control.  He has blessed me with such a beautiful family.

Small update

January 14th, 2009 by Brock

alyssa_chopper.jpg

Sorry I haven’t posted since we’ve come home.  I got caught back up in work and a full house.

David is doing well.  We went back to UAB Monday to see the cardiologist, and he was pleased with the progress.  We go back next month, and we could be on-track for another heart cath sometime around September.  We were told of some possibilities after that, but I don’t want to go into specifics.  Please just pray that his right ventricle will increase in size between now and then.

Alyssa is settling back into being at home.  She had a really rough time being away in Birmingham for six weeks.  Being at home is definitely the best medicine.

We are thinking about making some changes at the house and possibly looking for a new one.  It’s amazing how quickly your house shrinks with more kids.

My Xbox 360 was laid to rest tonight thanks to the “Red Ring of Death.”  Piece of junk.  That’s the second time in two years.  I have a Wii, so I really don’t want to invest in another 360.  However, I’ve got so many games for it.  What to do?  I won’t invest in a PS3 because it’s the same price as a 360 Elite, and I have a stand-alone Blu-ray player.  Eh.

My bosses bought me a sweet powerhouse PC last week, and I finally got everything installed on it today at work.  It’s so fast.  I want to cry tears of joy.  :-)

That’s about all I can think of for now.  Please pray I can get time to work on my freelance Web sites.  We need the money (and who doesn’t?)!

Happy New Year!

January 1st, 2009 by Brock

Here’s to a happy and fruitful new year to you!

In February 2008, I left the world of television news to work with another group of fantastic people at Auburn.  And with Raycom slashing jobs like no one’s business this past month, it’s a good thing I did.  I love all my old and new co-workers and friends.

Also in February, our little Alyssa turned the big 0-2.  :-)   She still amazes us with how well she can hold a conversation and understand so many things.

We also welcomed our son, David, into the world in December.  He’s gone through so much, and he’s still fighting his heart defect.  Thankfully, we’re ending 2008 with positive news and a happy little man.

And Amy, thank you for always being my wonderful wife. We’ll celebrate our 10-year anniversary in June, and I thank God for you every day.

God, thank You for Your blessings this past year.  Please continue to pour out Your grace and mercy on us and our loved ones in 2009.
