The power of Twitter and tragedy from home

March 10th, 2009 by Brock

First of all, please pray for the folks in my hometown of Geneva. I’m actually from Coffee Springs, right in the middle of Geneva and Samson, but I spent most of my time in Geneva since that’s where I graduated from high school. What a terrible day for my friends and loved ones there.

However, I couldn’t help but pass this along. Twitter is more powerful than I thought. It seems more news agencies are watching Twitter feeds to help their stories.

Since I’m from Geneva County, I wrote some stuff on Twitter shortly after the news broke about the shootings. Within 10 minutes, a reporter from the BBC e-mailed me asking if I could point her to some people there. She said she saw my “tweets,” and I was able to put her in contact with my best friend and the local weekly paper editor. They both helped her out, and it was top story on the BBC Web site tonight.

I have yet to hear if I know anyone killed, but here’s hoping I don’t. I love all of you back home.

All quiet on the western front

February 18th, 2009 by Brock

Well, maybe not ALL quiet, but it’s settling down.  The sweet princess is down for the night, and little bro is not feeling well.  He’s got some congestion, and it’s working its way into his chest.  That means one unhappy boy.

myfam01.jpgWe had a great visit with his cardiologist at UAB Monday.  His right ventricle muscle seems to be softening up, which means it could start growing  more.  That would be a tremendous blessing if so!

Alyssa turns three Saturday.  I can’t believe it’s been three years since she was born.  She is such a little angel, and she’s my baby girl.  I love you so much, my beautiful princess.

Work is going very well.  I was so happy in television news that I never thought I could find a job I love more.  It’s hard to believe I found one.

I tend to talk a lot about work, but I have no reason to stop.  I’m sometimes at my happiest there.  We all have a lot of fun.  I’m getting a lot better at Photoshop because of it, too.  You should see some of the pictures we all create of each other.  That seems to be the favorite prank of the office.

If you love “The Office” like I do, then check out my new site, http://www.cousinmose.com.  I haven’t done anything with it yet, so I would love some feedback as to what you would like to see.

Also, check out the photos page.  I’ve updated it with two new autographs I’ve collected, Amy Adams and James Caan.

I don’t have a whole lot of significant things to say.  I just don’t want this blog to go stale.  Maybe my creative juices will flow again soon.   Have a great night!

Happy New Year!

January 1st, 2009 by Brock

Here’s to a happy and fruitful new year to you!

In February 2008, I left the world of television news to work with another group of fantastic people at Auburn.  And with Raycom slashing jobs like no one’s business this past month, it’s a good thing I did.  I love all my old and new co-workers and friends.

Also in February, our little Alyssa turned the big 0-2.  :-)   She still amazes us with how well she can hold a conversation and understand so many things.

We also welcomed our son, David, into the world in December.  He’s gone through so much, and he’s still fighting his heart defect.  Thankfully, we’re ending 2008 with positive news and a happy little man.

And Amy, thank you for always being my wonderful wife. We’ll celebrate our 10-year anniversary in June, and I thank God for you every day.

God, thank You for Your blessings this past year.  Please continue to pour out Your grace and mercy on us and our loved ones in 2009.

A time for thanks

November 26th, 2008 by Brock

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and we have a lot to be thankful for in our household.

I am thankful, first and foremost, for God and what He has blessed us with.  This year has been full of many changes, and He has been faithful through it all.

Second, I’m so thankful for my wife, Amy.  She is a rock I can lean on, and I love her so very much.  We both have had the biggest change of our lives this year with our son, David.  As I write this, he still isn’t here, but will come into this world by this time next week.

I’m in the O-A News?!?

August 18th, 2008 by Brock

Bwaahaahaahaa!  :-)   Sorry.  I had to.

After years of not being mentioned in any other news outlet (working in TV news kinda keeps the competitors from acknowledging your existence), the Opelika-Auburn News mentioned me, along with Matt and Mike (who’s used to it).

Web cameras give new “insight” to campus life

I just found it funny.  :-)   Thanks for the great article, Brittany!
