Small update

Sorry I haven’t posted since we’ve come home.  I got caught back up in work and a full house.

David is doing well.  We went back to UAB Monday to see the cardiologist, and he was pleased with the progress.  We go back next month, and we could be on-track for another heart cath sometime around September.  We were told of some possibilities after that, but I don’t want to go into specifics.  Please just pray that his right ventricle will increase in size between now and then.

Alyssa is settling back into being at home.  She had a really rough time being away in Birmingham for six weeks.  Being at home is definitely the best medicine.

We are thinking about making some changes at the house and possibly looking for a new one.  It’s amazing how quickly your house shrinks with more kids.

My Xbox 360 was laid to rest tonight thanks to the “Red Ring of Death.”  Piece of junk.  That’s the second time in two years.  I have a Wii, so I really don’t want to invest in another 360.  However, I’ve got so many games for it.  What to do?  I won’t invest in a PS3 because it’s the same price as a 360 Elite, and I have a stand-alone Blu-ray player.  Eh.

My bosses bought me a sweet powerhouse PC last week, and I finally got everything installed on it today at work.  It’s so fast.  I want to cry tears of joy.  :-)

That’s about all I can think of for now.  Please pray I can get time to work on my freelance Web sites.  We need the money (and who doesn’t?)!

The clock ticks and Xbox stinks

November 17th, 2008 by Brock

One quick update before I finally crash for the night.  The clock is ticking for our baby boy to come into the world.  Friends and family, you’ll receive updates via e-mail.  I’ll post here with less-vital information when time permits.

I turned on my Xbox 360 tonight, and for the second time in less than two years, I got the red ring of death.  I think my days of the Xbox are over.  We have a Wii, which we dearly love.  I know it probably won’t break anytime soon, so I’ll try to sell my 360 game collection over eBay.  If I can make some decent money off of it, I’ll see about investing in a PS3.  My HDTV screams for HD games.  :-)

I gave Microsoft glowing reviews in a January 2007 post for their customer service in replacing my 360.  I thank them, but my thanks will now turn to “no thanks” as I’d rather have functional hardware in lieu of customer service.

What do you think?  Keep just the Wii, or bite the bullet on PS3?

Can I borrow some money?

November 16th, 2006 by Brock

The big news of the day seems to be people waiting in line for the new PlayStation 3. Are they crazy for being in line for a couple of days? Not really.

Some of the reports I heard today came from college kids lined up outside the stores. The best part is many of them are not wanting the system for themselves. They’re going to resell it on eBay.

Why wait? Because over the last few days, eBay buyers have been bidding upward of $2,500 for these systems. Yep. A $600 system for $2,500.

That’s the smart portion of waiting two days in the cold. However, the buyers on eBay are pretty dumb sometimes. Here’s where patience pays off.

Remember the Xbox 360 shortage last year? I was certainly one of the many who wanted to get my hands on it. I didn’t go on eBay to get mine though. I played it smart.

When my family and friends asked me what I wanted for Christmas last year, I told them cash and Best Buy gift cards. My master plan was in motion. I was going to get the money and basically have someone else pay for my 360.

Fast forward to the beginning of February 2006. It just so happens I did get enough in Christmas gifts to buy my system. I walked into Best Buy one morning while they were still having the shortage, and I asked about the next shipment.

The employee graciously said, “Be here at 10:00 tomorrow morning. We’ll have about 10 on the floor.” Lo and behold, he was right. I waited outside until the doors opened, and there they were. I picked mine up, and I’ve been in love ever since.

The morale of the story? These systems come out in November, and there’s going to be a shortage right off the bat. I basically got a free 360 for waiting until three months after the debut. Christmas is a beautiful thing (for many more important reasons than just gifts…).

Patience is key if you want one for yourself, but kudos to you guys in line looking to make an insane profit. I hope you walk out with one Friday morning.

To you guys buying one on eBay for that price? Suckers. :-)
